Dr. Mohammad Mahfujur Rahman, an alumnus of DIU successfully completed Ph.D. from the Science and Engineering Faculty at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), Australia recently. His Ph.D. thesis title was "Deep Domain Adaptation and Generalization".

Dr. Mohammad Mahfujur Rahman completed his B.Sc. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering in the year 2013 with a Gold Medal award from 4th Convocation of DIU. 

Dr. Mohammad Abdul Hannan, an alumnus of DIU successfully completed Ph.D. in ICT from the University of Trento (UNITN), Italy on 29th October 2020. Dr. Hannan completed his B.Sc. on Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE-11 batch) from Daffodil International University.

His Ph.D. thesis title was "Sparse Processing Methodologies based on Compressive Sensing for Directions-of-Arrival Estimation".

Healthy Biodiversity is important in so many ways. It promotes food and water security, human health, and disaster risk reduction. Better ecosystem management helps to reduce poverty and increase Bangladesh’s resilience to a changing climate. USAID, Bangladesh took an important step to support Daffodil International University through a USAID Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research research grant to measure land use and land change, specifically biomass in the coastal mangrove Sundarbans and Sal forests using drone-based photography and computer modeling. These eyes in the sky help us know what is happening on the ground so we can protect the environment for future generations.

On this show, media and journalism experts discussed the current issues and focus how media in Bangladesh is standing against sexual harassment. Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director of Students’ Affairs was the moderator of this session.

Mental health experts discussed on the issues and how to increase awareness on preventing sexual harassment from psychological perspective. Ms. Bilkis Khanam, Psychologist of Daffodil International University was the moderator of the session

A training session to develop self-protection skills was organized by DIU Karate-Do Club. Mr. S. Islam Shuvo, the Coach and Referee of Bangladesh Karate Foundation was the Trainer of the session, where Mr. Anik Hasan Joy, the President of Karate-Do Club was the moderator of the session.

Law experts discussed on the current issues and also the policy and laws against sexual harassment in Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab, Associate Dean (FHSS) and Chairperson of Complaint Committee to prevent sexual harassment at DIU was the moderator of the session.

আমি নাজিয়া আফরোজ অনন্যা। আইন বিভাগের ছাত্রী। গ্রাজুয়েশানের দ্বারপ্রান্তে দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছি। গোটা বছরটা প্যানডেমিকের জন্য অনেক খারাপ কেটেছে দেশ ও দেশের মানুষের জন্য। কিন্তু এ বছরটাই আমার জীবনের সব থেকে স্মরণীয় এবং অভিজ্ঞতায় ভরপুর এক বছর। কারণ বছরের শুরুতেই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে 'এরাসমাস স্কলারশিপ' এর অফার এলো। যাতে আমি সিলেক্ট হলে একটা সেমিস্টার ইউরোপের একটা দেশে কম্পলিট করতে পারবো। হাজারো এ্যাপ্লিক্যান্টের মাঝে আমার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এবং ইন্টারন্যাশনাল এ্যাফেয়ার্স অফিস আমাকে বেছে নিয়েছে জেনে আমি যারপরনাই কৃতজ্ঞ ও আনন্দিত হলাম। এরপরের গল্পটা আরো দারুণ।

একা হাতে একটা স্কলারশিপ প্রসেসিং, ডকুমেন্টস প্রসেসিং, ভিসা এপ্লাই, টিকিট কাটা থেকে শুরু করে সব কাজ সেরেছি। কিন্তু ছায়ার মতো পাশে ছিলো বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কতৃপক্ষ এবং প্রিয় কিছু শিক্ষক। কত কি যে শিখলাম এসব কাজ করতে গিয়ে! তারপর একাই পাড়ি জমালাম ছ'মাস একটা ভিনদেশে পড়ালেখা করতে। দেশটার নাম লিথুনিয়া। ব্যালটিক স্টেটের একটি। সেখানে একটি সরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় মাইকোলাস রোমারিজ ইউনিভার্সিটিতে পড়তে গেলাম। সেখানকার ল' স্কুল গুলো আমায় যে অভিজ্ঞতা দিয়েছে তার মাঝেও বেশি অভিজ্ঞতা হয়েছে  ভ্রমণের ফলে। ইউরোপিয়ান গভর্নমেন্ট মাসিক স্কলারশিপ দিতো। থাকা-খাওয়ার খরচ বাদে বাদ বাকি অর্থ আমি ভ্রমণে ব্যয় করেছি। গোটা লিথুনিয়া, কউনাস, উজুপিস, পোল্যান্ড, প্যারিস, সুইজারল্যান্ড সহ বেশ কয়েক দেশ এবং তাদের কালচার জেনে-দেখে-ও জয় করে এলাম। জীবনটাকে তখন ভিনি-ভিদি-ভিসি ই মনে হচ্ছিলো সত্যি। তবে লকডাউনে কোথাও যেতে পারিনি। দিনে দিনে ডিপ্রেসড হয়েছি বন্দী থেকে। তবে যেদিন থেকে ইউরোপের বেশ কিছু দেশ তাদের বর্ডার ওপেন করে দিলো, আমিও ব্যাগপ্যাক করে বেড়িয়ে পড়লাম। উদ্দেশ্যহীণ যাত্রা…

তবে আজ একটা গন্তব্য নিয়েই শুধু কথা বলবো। কারণ, উল্লেখিত সবগুলো দেশ সম্পর্কে কমবেশি সবাই জানে। তবে আমার মতে উজুপিস নামক একটা ক্ষুদ্র দেশের ব্যাপারে খুব কম মানুষই জানেন। তাই আজ অন্য সব আলোচনা ছেড়ে কেবল ঐ দেশটি নিয়েই কথা বলবো। আমার ভ্রমণের অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করবো।

দেশটির নাম উজুপিস। দ্যা রিপাবলিক অফ উজুপিস। খুব কম মানুষই জানেন এই জিপসী রাষ্ট্রের ব্যাপারে। ইউরোপের ক্ষুদ্রতম দেশগুলোর এটি একটি। এখানে যাদের বাস তারা সবাই ভবঘুরে বা জিপসীদের আবাসস্থলও বলা চলে। সিঙ্গার, আর্টিস্ট, পিয়ানিস্ট, রাইটার এবং আরো অনেকের বাস এখানে। শহরটাকে বলা হয় 'দ্যা সিটি অফ আর্ট এন্ড আর্টসি' অথবা 'দ্যা সিটি অফ জাস্টিস'। মোড়ে মোড়ে বাহারি কফিশপ। রাস্তায় ওপেনলি রেখে দেয়া আছে পিয়ানো। গোটা শহরের দেয়ালগুলোতে নানা ধরণের গ্রাফিতি। দু'পা হাঁটলেই চোখে পড়ে দারুণ সব আর্ট গ্যালারি ও এক্সিবিশান। আর শহরের ঠিক মধ্যস্থানে রয়েছে 'দ্যা এ্যাঞ্জেল অফ উজুপিস' ভাস্কর্য। এবং বলা হয়ে থাকে ওখানকার বসবাসকারী সকল নাগরিক-ই এক একটা এ্যাঞ্জেল।

দেশটির আয়তন ১ বর্গ কিলোমিটারেরও কম। লিথুনিয়ার রাজধানী ভিলনিয়াস থেকে নিজেদেরকে স্বাধীন ঘোষণা করেন তারা। লিথুনিয়া হলো ব্যাল্টিক রাষ্ট্রের তিনটির মধ্যে একটি এবং ইউরোপের ভৌগোলিক কেন্দ্র। সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের শাসনাধীন ছিলো বহুবছর এই ব্যাল্টিক রাষ্ট্রগুলো।

সোভিয়েত ইউনিয়নের ভাঙন এবং লিথুনিয়ার ইন্ডিপেন্ডেস রিস্টোরেশানের পরে অনেক সোভিয়েত ধ্বংসপ্রাপ্ত স্তম্ভ রয়ে যায় সেখানে। ১৯৯৫ সালে, উজুপিসে অবস্থিত সেসব শূন্য স্তম্ভের একটির উপরেই মার্কিন রক আইকন ফ্র্যাংক জ্যাপার মূর্তি গড়ে তোলা হয়। স্থানীয় কয়েকজন ভাস্কররা মিলে এটি তৈরী করেন। অবশ্য জ্যাপা কোনোদিনই লিথুনিয়ায় যাননি। তবুও 'মুক্তি ও গণতন্ত্রের' প্রতীক হিসেবে তার মূর্তিই গড়ে তোলেন ভাস্কররা।

উজুপিস দেশটাও এখন লিথুনিয়ার বাকি অংশ থেকে আলাদা একটি স্বাধীন গণপ্রজাতন্ত্র। তারা দেশটির জন্য চারটি জাতীয় পতাকার নকশা করেছেন। লিথুনিয়া থেকে উজুপিসকে আলাদা করেছে যে নদীটা তাকেই মূলত বলে উজুপিস। ইংরেজিতে যার অর্থ 'বেয়ন্ড দ্যা রিভার'। যাইহোক, তারা একেক ঋতুর জন্য একেক রঙের পতাকা তৈরি করেছেন। তারা উজুপিস দিবসও পালন করেন। একটি নির্দিষ্ট দিনে তারা নদীতে সবুজ রঙ ছড়ান, রোড শো করেন, নাটক করেন, পুরো শহর তখন ফেস্টিভ হয়ে ওঠে। এবং সারাদিনব্যাপী সেগুলো টিভিতে লাইভ টেলিকাস্ট হয়।

দেশটি নিজস্ব সংবিধানও প্রণয়ন করেছে। এবং সেই থেকে সত্যিই একটি স্বাধীন দেশের মতোই আচরণ করে আসছে। শুধু সংবিধানই নয়, এই দেশটির রয়েছে নিজস্ব রাষ্ট্রপতি, সরকার, মুদ্রা, পাসপোর্ট, তিন-চারটি নৌকাসমেত নৌবাহিনীও। তাদের ১০ সদস্য বিশিষ্ট সেনাবাহিনীও ছিল। কিন্তু শান্তিপ্রিয় দেশটি কারও সাথে বিবাদে জড়াতে ইচ্ছুক নয় বলে সেনাবাহিনীকে বিলুপ্ত ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে তাদের সংবিধান অনুযায়ী।

রাস্তার দেয়ালে পৃথিবীর আঠারোটি ভাষায় তাদের সংবিধান লেখা আছে। এমনকি হিন্দিতেও লেখা দেখলাম। কিন্তু বাংলা না দেখে কিছুটা আশাহত হলাম। যদিও ভৌগলিক অবস্থান এবং আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পর্কের উপরে ভিত্তি করেই এগুলো হয় বলে মেনে নিলাম তাদের সংবিধানের বাকি আঠারোটি ভাষা।

এতো চমৎকার কিছু অধিকারের কথা বলা আছে তাদের সংবিধানে, যা কখনো আপনি আপনার রাষ্ট্রে চোখেও দেখবেন না। এই যেমন- আপনার অসুখী হওয়ার অধিকার আছে, সুখী হওয়ার অধিকার আছে, একটা বেড়াল তার প্রভুকে ভালবাসতেও পারে আবার নাও পারে, নিজের নাম ভুলে যাওয়াটা অপরাধ, আপনাকে সুন্দর দেখানোর অধিকার আছে, মোটা-চিকন হওয়ার অধিকার আছে, ভালবাসার অধিকার আছে। হ্যাঁ, বিশ্বাস করুন, এগুলো সব সাংবিধানিক অধিকার উজুপিসের।

যদিও বিশ্বনেতারা কখনোই উজুপিসকে আনুষ্ঠানিক ভাবে স্বীকৃতি দেয়নি। তবুও এই উজুপিসই এখন ভিলনিয়াস সহ গোটা লিথুনিয়ার একটা বড় টুরিস্ট হাব। গৌরবের এবং আয়ের বিরাট উৎস।

যাদের আর্ট, লিটারেচার, মিউজিকের প্রতি ঝোঁক বেশি, ইউরোপের ব্যাল্টিক রিজিয়নে ভ্রমণে গেলে অবশ্যই অবশ্যই এই দেশটা ঘুরে আসবেন।

উজুপিসকে আজই বাকেট লিস্টে রেখে দিন। কারণ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে পরবর্তীতে কেউ এরাসমাস প্রোগ্রামে গেলে অবশ্যই একটা ঢু মেরে আসবেন উজুপিসে। আমার অন্যতম প্রিয় একটি দেশে।

The Intra-University Online Chess Tournament was held at Daffodil International University on 1 October 2020. A total of 98 students from different departments took part in the tournament,
which was operated in Swiss league system on the platform of lichess.org.

In the open category, Mottakin Mondol of EEE department became champion, Al-Amin Mustaq of CSE department became first runner-up and Jahid Hasan of EEE department became second runner-up. In the female category, Raihana Rahman, Zannatun Vasha and Sharmin Huq became champion, first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. All of them are from CSE department. The winners were given cash prizes and certificates.

The prize giving ceremony was held on 05 October 2020 online where FIDE Master Mehdi Hasan Parag was present as chief guest and Director of Students' Affairs Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman was special guest. Dr. Binoy Barman, Convener of the Chess Club of DIU moderated the function. The prize winners also expressed their feelings and narrated their experiences of chess playing.

BRAC University became champion in DIU Inter-University Online Chess Tournament hosted by Daffodil International University and collaborated by Bangladesh Chess Arena.

The tournament was held on lichess.org platform in 3+2 arena system within a timeframe of one and a half hours on October 16-17, 2020, said a press release.

BRAC University gained a total of 123 points to hit the top of the list. National University earned 102 points and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology 87 points to occupy the second and third positions respectively. 

With a view to enhance Student empowerment and placement through knowledge sharing, the Department of Law organized a Workshop on “Tips and Tricks to Improve Learning during Lockdown” on 21 October 2020. This session was held by DIU, Bloom Learning, NILS DIU Chapter and DIU Moot Court Society jointly. The Keynote Speaker of the Session was Dr. Melody Lang (CO-Founder & COO of Bloom Learning and Founder & Director of MPA Education, London, United Kingdom) and the Special Guest was Prof. Dr. Farhana Helal Mehtab (Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanity & Social Sciences, DIU). The whole session was moderated by Mr. Arif Mahmud (Lecturer, Dept. of Law, DIU).
