The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (commonly abbreviated DofE) is an awards programme for the youth, founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, that has since expanded to 144 nations. The Award is accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status, ability, ethnicity, or gender.
The Duke of Edinburgh's award is divided into 4 parts. Skill Development, Community Service, Physical Recreation & Adventurous Journey. Recently, a team from Daffodil International University went on an adventurous journey from Dhaka to Srimangal. They started their journey at 8:30PM on 23 March from Kamalapur, Dhaka and ended the journey at 12:10AM on 27th March 2021 successfully. Along with the team leader Mr. Md. Nasim Howlader, nine other skilled and successful awardees participated in this adventurous journey.
On the first day of the journey, they went to Baikka Beel. Baikka Beel is a large, shallow lake at the southern end of the wetland Hail Haor. It is located midway between Srimangal and Moulovi Bazar. After that, they rent a resort which was quite hectic due to many circumstances. The next day of the journey, they conquered “Hum Hum waterfall”. Hidden in the depths of tropical forests, this tall waterfall is only a truly impressive sight. Since it was summer, it was dry but still makes an excellent hike through farmland and villages, the gardens of Champarai Tea Estate and finally through the beautiful jungles of Rajkandi Forest Reserve. During the hiking, all the participants faced a number of obstacles but they overcame together everything with their team works. They also visited Monipuri Para, Madhubpur Lake, Lauachora and Nilkantha Cabin.
During this journey, awardees visited on the lap of the mother of nature in Sylhet. They saw the beauty of the nature of Bangladesh and cultivated it in their own personality. But it wasn’t an easy task. Resort rent, food management, transportation management, etc needed team works, good leadership skills, and adaptability. Because of that, all participants learned how to adapt and compromise the situations and become the best of them. |
