Commemoration of SAARC Charter Day at Daffodil International University

Two students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering named Bhaskar Sarkar and Shamsun Nahar have achieved the Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Bronze Level. 

As an essential part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Programme, 12 members of the team under the Award Leader (Ms. Fahmi Hasan), visited Birishiri, Netrokona on 2nd November 2018. They enjoyed the beauty of Shomeswari River, China Clay Lake, Bangladesh- India Border, Ranikhong Church, Tribal area of Hajong people and Garo village, Palace of Maharaja Susang, Orange forest and interacted with the local tribal people about their life style.

Sabiha Tabassum Prema, student of Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Daffodil International University (DIU) is doing exceptionally great in her academic and co-curricular activities in the USA️. She has already completed 110 hours of volunteering and got the internship in Hotel Hyatt Place to start working from January 2019. Apart from this, Ms. Sabiha achieved certificates on Supplier Network site for venue searching, RFP creation, site selection and safety and security for women. Recently, Sabiha has been selected for the 2019 Spring Leadership Program of USA.

Syed Minhaj Hossain, student of the Department of Multimedia & Creative Technology, Daffodil International University attended a 3-week long “Arts Envoy: Border Workshop” from Nov 26 to Dec 15, 2018 in India with a fully funded scholarship of U.S. Department of State. Young professionals, community leaders and performance artists from India and Bangladesh joined here to share live experiences across 🇮🇳 India-Bangladesh 🇧🇩border. The group closely worked with experts from Bond Street Theatre, USA.

Recently our Alumnus Ms. Sabina Yasmin (of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, DIU) has received "14th Meena Media Award- 2018" by UNICEF, Bangladesh. So we have celebrated her achievement at DIU on 20 December 2018 (Thursday) at Milonayaton-71.

Honorable Vice–Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam and Mr. Masud Ibn Rahman, Associate Professor of Daffodil International University recently visited the Karabuk University, Turkey under Erasmus+ KA107 Training Programme from 5th to 9th November 2018. DIU Vice –Chancellor conducted a training program about ‘Can we use our brains effectively?’ organized in the Faculty of Theology and Faculty of Medicine. The workshop includes the knowledge of the connection between the neurons in the brain emphasizing the use of Islam. Students, academic and administrative staffs of different faculties of KBU joined in the sessions. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam met Prof Dr. Refik Polat, Rector of KBU and discussed different mobility plans in the field of internationalization between the universities in coming days.

Mr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Head, Department of General Educational Development & Director of Students’ Affairs joined and represented DIU in the Kick-Off Meeting & Signing Ceremony of World Universities Association for Community Development (WUACD) in Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia during 29 November-1 December 2018 with the theme “Community Development:Regional Challenges and Opportunities”. The four main pillars of WUACD are Improving Children’s Health; Poor Social and Economic Development; Development of Marginal Education and Environmental Problems. Delegates from 18 representatives of five continents joined in this forum & expected to increase the number of inbound and outbound program for lecturers, educational staff, and students. 

Prof. Dr. Touhid Bhuiyan, Head, Department of Software Engineering and Director of Cyber Security Centre along with Mr. Mohammad Khaled Sohel, Assistant Professor of the Department of Software Engineering, DIU attended the 1st International Conference on Cyber Security and Computer Science (ICONCS 2018) in Karabük University, Turkey during 18-20 October 2018. This annual International Conference on Cyber Security and Computer Science is the result of mutual agreement between @Karabük University, Turkey, Daffodil International University, Bangladesh & Dongseo University, South Korea. It will continually be held again on annual basis at Daffodil International University, Dongseo University, and Karabük University respectively.

Mr. Omar Faruk, Sr. Administrative Officer of Daffodil International University (DIU) attended the SaeMaul Community Development Leadership Training for Professionals with full funded sponsorship during November 27 - December 2, 2018 as well as SaeMaul Undong Leadership Forum 2018 during 27-29 November 2018. Representatives from 45 different countries around the world participated in this year forum. SaeMaul Undang Movement, started in 1970, a community development program by Korean govt which, they believe, is one of the key reasons why South Korea has become one of the strongest and greatest economy in the world.

Tithee Chakma, student of Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Md. Sahin Khan, alumni & current employee of DIU are now attending “Winter for International Learners & Leaders (WILL 2018)" at Chungnam National University (CNU) in South Korea. CNU WILL is a 2-week short-term program started on 27 December 2018 and will continue until 10 January 2019. The program is designed for international students who will complete an academic course of 3 credits on ‘Asia Business'. They will have opportunities to visit several research institutes in Daedeok Science Town and to enjoy winter sports and experience Korean culture.

To create the best and skilled artisans in the field of programming and to provide right idea of programming at the very beginning of their university life and to get inspired, motivated and encouraged to think about their future Computer and Programming Club (DIU CPC) organized ‘Take Off Programming Competition Fall -2018’ on 30 November 2018 at DIU Dhanmondi Campus.

The Department of English of Daffodil International University organized a quiz competition and round table discussion on “Tertiary Education in Bangladesh: Prospects and Challenges” under The Daily Star reading project on 10 December 2018 at 11:00 am in the Banquet Hall. The Editor of The Daily Star, Mr. Mahfuz Anam attended the program as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor of DIU, moderated the round table discussion.

13 students from Department of Architecture attended a weeklong academic Residency Program- 2018 in Chottogram under the supervision of Mr. Sheikh Muhammad Rezwan, Senior Lecturer of DIU. 

Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Daffodil International University, Jahangirnagar University and South Asian University, India jointly organized the ‘International Joint Conference on Computational Intelligence- IJCCI-2018’ at Daffodil International University. Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission, Bangladesh was inaugurated the two daylong conference as the chief guest on14 December, 2018 at 71 Milonayoton of the university.

Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University presented the Keynote Speech at the International Conference on Advancements in Engineering Education (iCAEED 2018) at the 3rd Global Circle for Scientific, Technological and Management Research (GCSTMR) World Congress held at Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia on 3rd December 2018. Dr. Khan spoke on “Private University Sector in Indian Sub-Continent: Success story of Daffodil International University”. Dr. Khan shared the views with the top management of WSU and found that plenty of opportunities are prevailed there in higher education in Australia for Bangladeshi students and he urged them to grab those opportunities to build a knowledge based society for future generation. 

China has created emerging opportunities for students and young professionals for South Asia as well as globally. With a view of creating a new partnership in the areas of different exchange programs, dual degree, scholarship, internship possibilities etc, a delegation from the Jiangxi Normal University (JNU), China visited Daffodil International University. The delegation was led by Dr. HAIJUN LI, Deputy Director, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges along Prof. YUEQIN TANG, International Program Coordinator, Business School and Prof. ZHIMING RAO, International Program Coordinator, College of Physics and Communication Electronics of JNU. After a successful meeting, both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together especially in Business & Engineering fields.

Professor Yousuf M Islam, PhD, Honorable Vice Chancellor visited Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) on 30 November, 2018. Professor Islam and Professor Dato’ Dr. Musa Ahmad,Vice Chancellor of USIM signed a MOA. Under the MOA, PhD candidates from DIU will get a 30% off on tuition fees. The universities will also collaborate in the field of research as well.

DIU signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Horseed International University HIU, Mogadishu, Somalia to make an academic relationship with both institutions. Dr. Abdikarim Sh-Mohamed Hassan, Rector, HIU and Professor Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Vice Chancellor, DIU signed the MoA on behalf of respective institutions. 

Daffodil International University (DIU) has taken initiative to support establishing School of Engineering in Nigeria and signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Al-Qalam University Katsina (AUK). With a view to launch engineering school, Professor Shehu Garki Ado, Vice Chancellor, AUK along with Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Lamido, Director, Academic Planning have paid a visit to DIU.

Department of Journalism & Mass Communication of Daffodil International University organized a Seminar on ‘Agriculture Journalism: A Case Study on Hredoye Mato O Manush’ on 2 December 2018 at 71 Milonayoton of the university. Country’s renowned Media Personality and Head of News of Channel i Mr. Shykh Seraj was present in the program as the chief guest.

DIU in association with Department of Narcotics Control, Bangladesh have organized a seminar titled ‘Drug Free Beautiful Life’ today on 4 December 2018 at 71 Milinayoton of the university. Mr. Sanjoy Kumar Choudhury, Additional Director General of Department of Narcotics Control, Bangladesh was present at the seminar as the chief guest.
