"I’m not a chef but I’m passionate about food - the tradition of it, cooking it, and sharing it...."

I’m Chinmoy Chakma from Department of English. I’m so thankful to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for giving me an inspiration on the skill of cooking. I’ve never been a good cook. Duke of Edinburgh Award gave me the chance to learn some basic cooking skills and new recipes. Let’s be honest, I always avoid to learn cooking because, I was thinking that it is a useless skill and work. But Duke of Edinburgh Award makes understand to me about the value of the cooking skill. Now I have learned a lot of cooking skills and recipes from Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana, Cooking Studio by Umme, Cooking Channel BD, Nisha Madhulika and many sources through the help of youtube. Still I’m trying hard to develop this skill and I think it makes me a self-reliant person. So again I want to say, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is not only an award but also a platform of learning new skills.

"Recently I have created a short film, based on a story of a brother and sister, their sufferings and how they overcome it...."

Not all learning happens in the classroom or within the book. For driving my monotony, I was looking for something special which will help me to expand my outer knowledge and increase social interaction. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is the perfect bundle of what I'm looking for.It equips young people for life regardless of their background, culture, physical ability, skills and interests. That's why I decide to participate in it to increase my physical abilities, skills and interest. I have a huge interest in video making so that I choose the option video making from skill section. Recently I have created a short film based on a story of a brother and sister, their sufferings and how they overcome it. On the process of making this short film, I experienced a lot of things which was unknown to me. I learnt about the process of movie making and how to deal with the artist especially with the junior artist. I learnt different kind of camera shots which made the film more realistic. Overall I have learnt many things which was untouched to me by creating this short film.

"I have chosen walking and jogging as my physical recreation option"

After coming to Dhaka city, I got admission at DIU but as I was away from my family, since day by day I was losing regularity and discipline in my daily life. One of the main bad habits was going bed late at night and wake up late at the morning. Due to this I was facing different problems as I was not able to maintain my daily activities.

Now I would like to express my cordial thanks to THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH'S AWARD and DIU for giving me this opportunity. Walking has been recreating me both mentally and physically. I select early morning for walking so now I have to wake up early in the morning. Honestly, at the beginning the feeling was not good that much because I am a sleep loving person but day by day I am feeling as well enjoying the changes. It is improving my class attendance, marks in the exam and moreover everything is going well now. Lastly, I am really pleased to be a part of this activity and organization.

My experience on Photography

I am Sayeem; student of the Department of English at DIU. In this year, I am participating in “The Duke Of Edinburgh’s International Award-2018’’. According to the rules of the award, I've chosen a task to increase my skill; mine is Photography. The experience of practicing photography was really fantastic. I have learned some photographic rules. I think Photography is an inspiring art. It teaches me to respect ugliness, how to focus on the best object. I am learning different camera angle & how to avoid unwanted things from the background. I have to pay attention to the things which most of the people overlooked. Finally, I can say that Photography teaches me to respect for each and everything which exist in nature.

I am a proud award participant

From the very first time of my varsity life I used to do things for my surroundings and society. Dhaka is one of the biggest megacity on this globe. Living cost in Dhaka city is a burden issue. But those people who are not qualified, not enough educated and have no skill of doing something to earn money are leading a miserable life here. They are living with unhygienic environment. They don't even have any knowledge about health care and family planning.

So, one day I decided  to do something for them and were searching about such kind of platform that can provide me an opportunity to do something for them. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme helped me to involve with "Save The Future, Bangladeshi" that is working for street children and their family in Dhaka. Many students are working with this organization as a volunteer and serving the people those are needy. Now I am a proud award participant and volunteer and teaching the street children and educating them with useful knowledge.
