Art of Giving Program 2024 at DIU

The Daffodil Family in Bangladesh served as an inspiration for the Art of Giving Program 2024 at Daffodil International University under the direction of Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, President of the Art of Giving Community, Bangladesh, and founder of the Daffodil Family, on June 17th across seven locations.

From May 14th to 17th, 2024, 37 remarkable awardees, accompanied by 5 dedicated award leaders, embarked on an unforgettable expedition in the breathtaking hill tracts of Rangamati.

For the first time ever, DIU has recognized outstanding students for their outstanding achievements in extra-curricular activities. Under the ‘Dean’s List Celebration Ceremony,’ these stars from 5 faculties were celebrated.

Partners Award: Nature-Based Future Challenge Competition

Nazmul Hoque Nayeem, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, DIU, and his team "Terraqueous: Innovation where Land and Water Meet" have earned a top-10 spot in the prestigious "Nature-Based Future Challenge" competition. Their visionary proposal for a region in Bangladesh by 2120 won the "Partners Award" on June 13, 2024, among the 11 most innovative projects. On June 11, the finalists gathered at Omnia on the Wageningen University and Research (WUR) Campus in the Netherlands for the Grand Finals, pitching their plans to a distinguished jury in a thrilling contest for the grand prize. 

Russell's "TYLO" Achieves Monthly Revenue of 10–15 Lakh, Expands with Venture Capital Funding

Russell's business,, "TYLO" of the Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, makes 10 to 15 lakh per month. Currently, there are 23 employees at Russell's Tylo. One of the USPs of her business is to provide fashion solutions for plus-size people. Russell started the journey to realize his dream with funding from the department. Recently, Bangladesh has received funding of Rs 40 lakh from venture capital, which is helping to scale up its business.

United Nations' FAO Bangladesh Four Betters Art Fest with their animated film 'Bilin'

Md. Nafis Fuad Auyon and Laiba Jannat, Department of Multimedia & Creative Technology, DIU, have secured 1st place in the United Nations FAO Bangladesh Four Betters Art Fest with their animated film "Bilin’"! Additionally, Durjoy Kumar Datta and Asiful Alam were finalists with their film "Echoes of the Ocean.".

Tamsa Chakma started her own initiative in her student life from her Facebook page

Tamsa, a student of the Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, has a monthly business of Rs 7-8 lakh. She started business with f-commerce, currently opening own outlet and taking business forward along with studies from the funds from department.

World Environment Day 2024

DIU organized various activities focusing on "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience" under the slogan "Generation Restoration." World Environment Day 2024 featured a rally, discussion session, tree plantation, and cleaning campaign, organized by the Department of Agricultural Science, DIU, the Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management, DIU, and the Office of the Future, DIU.

BVCL Invests  in Chaldal and Sokrio Technologies and partners with DIU for Startup Growth

Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd.. disbursed BDT 25 million in funding to Chaldal and Sokrio Technologies Ltd, supporting their growth and innovation. Additionally, in an exciting move to foster startup investment and contribute to the ecosystem, BVCL will partner with the country's first department, the Department of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, at Daffodil University for co-investment and entrepreneurial activities.

Prize-Giving Ceremony Highlights

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering celebrated the winners of the Googling Contest, TypeTrek Face-Off, Take-Off Programming Contest, and Unlock the Algorithm Programming Contest, which saw over 3100 participants showcasing exceptional coding, problem-solving, and research skills. Esteemed faculty members graced the event, adding to its significance. The enthusiasm and dedication of our students were truly inspiring, setting a high benchmark for future contests.

DIU welcomed a delegation from Purdue University Fort Wayne for a program on innovative teaching. The week-long visit included a workshop titled Teaching, Research, and Service in the Contemporary World featuring Dr. Ronald Friedman, the Dean of the College of Science; Prof. Ahmed Mustafa, Professor of the Department of Biological Science; and Ms. Farah Amer Combs, the Honors Program Director and Senior Lecturer in Arabic.

International Teaching Week 2024

 

Funded by the EU's Erasmus+ KA171 ICM Project, Professor Dr. Liza Sharmin, Dean of DIU's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, participated in International Teaching Week 2024 at Mykolas Romeris University in Lithuania from May 6-10, 2024. Dr. Liza conducted classes on English for Specific Purposes (ESP), networked with international colleagues, and engaged in meetings with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Studies.

 
Erasmus-funded ICM Project from ULBS

Under the Erasmus- funded ICM project, we recently had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Mihai Ognean and Prof. Claudia-Felicia Ognean, esteemed faculty members from the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Food Sciences at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (ULBS) in Romania , from May 16 to May 25, 2024. They were here to teach classes for the students of the Department of Nutrition and Food Engineering at DIU.

Student Exchange at Kohinoor Business School & Kohinoor Management School, Mumbai, India

Six DIU students from the Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, and Journalism, Media, and Communication departments joined the week-long 'Holistic Engagement and Development (HEAD) Programme 2024' from May 5 to 13 at Kohinoor Business School & Kohinoor Management School, Mumbai, India.

Nazrul Janm-Jayanti

The English Literary Club (ELC) of DIU proudly celebrated "Nazrul Janm-Jayanti" with the event "প্রাচীরভেদী নজরুল," honoring Kazi Nazrul Islam's birth anniversary. The program began with a touching documentary on Nazrul's life, followed by discussions highlighting his contributions to Indian liberation and Bangladesh movements, and his fight against oppression.
