The 37th Syndicate Meeting of Daffodil International University was successfully held on January 25, 2025, in the Conference Room at Daffodil Smart City, Savar, Dhaka. The meeting was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Syndicate, Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman.

A delegation from Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology (AUST), led by their Vice-Chancellor, visited Daffodil International University to explore collaborative research opportunities in the energy sector and water resource management. DIU’s EEE, CE, and Architecture departments showcased their achievements and initiatives, fostering discussions on impactful interdisciplinary research to address national challenges.

The 36th Academic Council Meeting of Daffodil International University, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, focused on academic progress, curriculum modernization, and strategic proposals for 2025. Daffodil International University welcomed 60 newly recruited faculty members (Spring 2025) with a transformative 9-day Orientation & Induction Training program organized by the Human Resource Development Institute to foster a student-centric learning environment.

As part of the "𝐈𝐓𝐌 𝟑𝟏𝟔 - 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐚𝐛 course, Abdullah Raian, Lecturer of ITM, organized a hands-on session for 6th batch students. The session took place at the state-of-the-art DIU Data Center in Knowledge Tower, Daffodil Smart City.

Mejbah, the freelancer in the Feni district, has been awarded as the best freelancer at the National Tech Awards 2024.

He also received this honor as one of the best freelancers in Chittagong Division."

Short Details: This study presents XSE-TomatoNet, an enhanced EfficientNetB0 model that integrates Squeeze-and-Excitation (SE) blocks and multi-scale feature fusion for superior tomato leaf disease classification. Achieving 99.41% accuracy, it outperforms MobileNet and VGG19, demonstrating strong generalization with 99.11% test accuracy, 99% precision, and recall in 10-fold cross-validation. LIME and SHAP enhance interpretability, while Grad-CAM and Grad-CAM++ provide visual insights. The model is deployed in a web-based system for practical use by tomato cultivators.

Short Details: Early detection of colorectal cancer through the proper segmentation of polyps in the colonoscopy images is crucial. Polyps' complex morphology and varied appearances are the greatest obstacles for the segmentation approaches. The paper introduces SAMU-Net, a novel deep learning-based dual-stage architecture consisting of a custom attention-based U-Net and modified Segment Anything Model (SAM) for better polyp segmentation. The efficiency of SAMU-Net generated from four different datasets of colonoscopy images was examined. Our process produced a dice coefficient score of 0.94, which is very impressive and has a considerable improvement over the existing state-of-the-art polyp segmentation methods. Moreover, the qualitative results also visualize that the SAMU-Net is capable of accurately segmenting polyps of wide ranges, thus, it is a relevant tool for computer-aided detection as well as the diagnosis of colorectal cancer.

Key Activities Are:

●       Meeting and Feedback: Engaged in discussions to gather feedback and refine ideas.

●       Prototype Development: Focused on design, fieldwork, and implementation of the prototype.

●       Software Development: Developed and integrated software to complement the prototype and also updated them according to the feedback from BRRI.

●       Data Collection:

Collected data from the system and also taken the data manually to compare them to measure the accuracy.

Key Activities Are:

• Developing software for managing students' mentoring and research activities.
• Bootcamp classes are now conducted weekly and engage students in the HIRL group.
• Introduce a new boot camp for building a student's foundation for research work.

The software will help to manage the entire research work with the team. A new research group will be created from the boot camp, which will enhance the research work.

Daffodil International University successfully organized an exciting project showcasing event on agentic AI, where 48 teams of talented students presented their innovative ideas and projects. The event, organized by the Department of Software Engineering, DIU, provided a platform for students to demonstrate their creativity, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities in AI-driven applications. A panel of industry experts evaluated the projects, providing constructive feedback to help students align their work with real-world industry standards. 

The Department of Agricultural Science, DIU, is making a significant impact by introducing innovative farming techniques! From cultivating diverse crops like cauliflower, brinjal, carrots, and many more to implementing AI-powered Smart Irrigation, we are shaping the future of agriculture—with collaboration from the DIU ICE—Department of Information & Communication Engineering and Department of Civil Engineering, DIU.

Over 150 Rover Scouts from DIU participated in the 18th Investiture Camp & Training Course, fostering leadership, teamwork, and sustainability in alignment with the SDGs. The Vice Chancellor of DIU visited the camp and attended the closing ceremony on 18 January 2025. Air Commodore AFM Shamimul Islam, Air Officer Commanding, Bangladesh Air Force Base Cox’s Bazar, was the chief guest in the closing ceremony.
